New York Photo Diary

Thursday 21 September 2017

Today I am starting a new category on this blog called "Photo Diaries". A series dedicated to all of those photos that perhaps don't fit into some of my regular travel posts and photos that, to me, tell a story.

Photo diaries is going to be more about the pictures and less about the text, because who doesn't like scrolling through a blog post just to look at the photos? Guilty as ever.  Some photos will have little captions letting you know where it was shot and other little details.

So I am kicking off this series with a photo diary from New York, a city I fell in love with during late spring this year.

 Hope you enjoy.

Having never been to New York before, Times Square was our first point of call. Our flight arrived late morning and after checking into our AirBnB in Williamsburg, we headed straight to this crazy part of the city.

After Times Square we decided to head towards the Flat Iron building, another iconic part of the city which I was dying to see as it has appeared on so many of my favourite TV programs.  It did not disappoint and I feel like it is a place that feels so quintessentially New York, which I loved.

The next day... Views from Dumbo in Brooklyn.

Me drinking the biggest mug of filter coffee I have ever seen at One Girl Cookies in Dumbo. Needed it dearly after waking up super early because of jet lag. Loved this moment so much.

After coffee we decided to have a wander around Dumbo and went into the most gorgeous boutique called General Store. Everything was really expensive but so so beautiful.

From Dumbo we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge back into Manhattan. This was the busiest bridge ever but definitely worth people dodging for its cultural significance and impeccable views of the city.

Jet lag getting the better of me but at least Central Park smelt like roses.

Later that day we ate ramen and then walked to the Williamsburg pier and watched the Manhatton skyline light up. Its got to be one of the best free viewpoints of the city.

On our third day we went to the High Line which turned out to be one of my favourite spots. Yep it was super busy, but the views from up here are great and its such a good concept. I geeked out a little at the Urban Planning aspect of the High Line (Geography Graduate) and loved the mix of urban with nature.

The next day it rained and rained so we visited The Met in the morning and then headed to Little Italy for a drizzly wander. We stopped in Two Hands to sample the banana bread with espresso mascarpone topping. It was delicious and such a welcome break from the relentless weather.

Pretty homes in Greenwich Village.

On our penultimate night, we took advantage of free Friday evenings at MoMa, which was crazy busy but had so many incredible pieces.

Early evening light in the city.

After MoMa we headed to a rooftop bar and spent a ridiculous amount on a half pint of beer but the views were worth it.

Our last night in our Williamsburg's AirBnB, drinking beers before heading to the William Vale hotel to see the skyline.

Thats it for my NY photo diary!

Much love,
Lizzie xx
