The Best Things to do in Seville

Sunday 15 May 2016

Seville is one of my favourite European cities as it is a little less well-known than other cities in Europe.
It is one of the sunniest cities in Europe (perfect for fellow sun seekers) and has a number of awesome things to do and see, as well as great food & drink!

The city itself is pretty small and so you can do a number of sites in the same day!

Two - Three days is plenty to do everything and generally speaking it was relatively affordable (especially with a student card).

So here are my top things to do in Seville based on my personal experience!

1. Roam around the Royal Alcazar at least once

The Royal Alcazar was by far my favourite place in Seville, so much so that I actually visited twice!

Stunning tiles, intricate ceilings and archways pretty much sums up the Alcazar. Often you would forget you were in Spain because it felt like you had stepped into a Moroccan palace.

I would advise going early in the morning before the crowds arrive so that you have the place to yourself, but also going in the evening before close was equally as divine.

2. Be amazed by the scale of the Cathedral & Brave the long walk to the top of the Giralda Tower

The Giralda Tower is iconic to Seville. It was originally built in 1195 as the minaret of the Aljama mosque but it is now the bell tower to the Cathedral and is recognised as a UNESCO world heritage site. In order to reach the top of the tower you have to walk up 35 ramps (designed so that horses or donkeys could climb the tower comfortably). It is quite a dizzy affair but the views at the top are truly worth it as you can see the entire city and beyond!

The Cathedral is also truly magnificent and for some reason I didn't realise it would take my breath away as much as it did. Mainly because the scale of it is insane and I guess I was not expecting that - definitely worth doing along with the Gilalda Tower and you can do them together as they are connected, which is very handy!

3. Feel the romance at the Plaza de Espana

The Plaza de Espana is definitely worth a visit for its sheer scale and grandeur, especially if you have a tile obsession and like romantic finds!

4. Climb the Metropol Parasol for an amazing view of the city

If, like me, you enjoy a good city viewpoint then the Metropol Parasol is not one to miss. The wooden structure was designed by a German architect and was only completed in 2011 and apparently caused some controversy when being built!

Nonetheless it is a pretty cool structure that provides an awesome view of the city. Plus, as a little tip there is a huge indoor market underneath the structure full of lots of fresh fruit & veg, fish, meat and cheese incase you are in need to some supplies!

5. Wander the Spanish Streets

Often my absolute favourite memories of visiting a European city is simply ones that consist of wandering aimlessly through the cities less touristy streets and doing a bit of window shopping and nosing at locals homes.

Luckily, we were staying in a fabulous Owners Direct find, which was located on a lovely street close to tapas bars and gorgeous homes, making wandering through residential streets a daily activity!

6. Eat Tapas... Every single day

Endless family holidays to Spanish islands have led me to be a big lover of tapas and Spanish food. I love how casual tapas is and I am a big lover of being able to try a million different things on the menu! As a couple, tapas was also a super cheap option and didn't leave you feeling horrendously sluggish, which is the last thing you want in 40 degree heat!

I hope you enjoyed this post! Comment below your favourite things to do in Seville, as I want to go back desperately!

Much love,

Lizzie xx
