Colosseum & Parco Savello | Day 2 in Rome

Wednesday 3 August 2016

Despite being rather sceptical of booking ourselves onto a group tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, we decided it would be best as we weren't massively clued up on the history of these places.
Little did we know that we would completely underestimate the efficiency of Rome's transport system and end up missing our 8:30 am tour by 10 minutes...

After one very pricey orange juice, a few colosseum snaps and some negotiating we managed to get moved onto a 10:00am slot. The tour was definitely very good and helped bring to life the ancient monuments for someone who shamefully has little understanding of ancient Rome. However, I will warn you that it was 3 hours long, without toilet breaks and after the first hour my hunger kicked in and thus, my concentration levels plummeted. So if you are thinking of doing a tour, come prepared with food and water and be at least 15 minutes early!!

Once the tour was finally over, we headed towards Trastevere in search of some lunch and a place to cool down. We stopped at one of the first restaurants we came to which was very picturesque. Unfortunately I do not have the name but the address was 173 Via Della Lungarina - worth checking out if you're ever in the area!

After refuelling on aldente carbonara and ravioli, we wandered through the streets of Trastevere admiring the ivy filled walls and pretty buildings before heading home for some rest.

After a shower and change of clothes, we had a little brain storm and decided to head back to the same area we had just been to explore Parco Savello - something I had admired online and was desperate to see!

The walk from our apartment took much longer than we had anticipated but once we arrived we knew it was completely worth the numb legs and blisters!

We were only a short walk away from Trastevere and so we decided to head back in search of pizza.  After dinner we wandered through the buzzing streets of Trastevere, stopped for some Nutella gelato (best thing ever) and then headed home for some sleep.

Thank you for reading!

The third and final rome travel diary will be up shortly!

 Much love,

Lizzie xx
